Natural Disasters
Problem:
Because Bangladesh is on the edge close to the sea they have some strong problems with natural disasters at least once a year. A few of the problems are floods, extreme temperature, drought, cyclones and storm surges.
Cause:
Bangladesh is still working on becoming industrialized and because they are not quite there yet they depend on the agriculture for a lot. When the temperature is so high it causes their crops to dry out and not become as abundant as they might be hopping for. When there was a cyclone that hit Bangladesh the majority of the people that were affected from the damage were women. The men were not affected as much because they were able to communicate openly in public and by the time the information got to the women it was too late.
Solution:
To help prevent more women from becoming victim to the disasters because they cannot communicate as openly as the men there needs to be a disaster waring system so that everyone knows what is coming and so they can plan ahead of time. The plan is to have a handful of sirens (5 or 6) depending on the size of each city or town. The short term goals would be to start with the 7 major cities, that would be a good start as a trial run for these systems. So of we estimate that each siren will cost about $500 and we use 5 in each area we would need to raise about $17,500. We can pair up with the us to fundraise for parts of or whole used outdated sirens and alarm systems. This will take roughly 5 years to collect all of the parts needed through fundraising and an extra 3 to get all of the systems set up in all 7 major cites and about an extra 5 years to test them out and see they are making a change in the circumstances and the amounts of women that are effected from floods and other disasters.
A few problems with this is that it can be extremely expensive to fund. It might be hard to find the right kinds of waring systems that might work for all of Bangladesh. It can also take a lot of time to get all of the systems up and running in all of the areas that there might be storms come and go before they can even get the warning systems working. Another problem that can be faced is that using sirens can be loud and annoying to some people and they could rather not have them or violate them because of the annoyance level of them.
The long term goals would be that after the testing period of the 5 years we can the expand the sirens to all of the existing cities and give them the opportunity of having the waring systems in all of the areas. In the long run this will help improve the death rate of the people, mainly the women, in Bangladesh when it comes to large storms and cyclones.

Problem:
Flooding of all of Bangladesh is one main disaster that happen year round. With Bangladesh being do close to the ocean 80% of the country is prone to floods. Many houses all around Bangladesh are being ruined and it is putting a lot of families on the streets and without houses and jobs.
Cause:
This is a problem because with all of the floods and droughts at different times in the year this is causing problems with their agriculture and crops. People are losing all of their possessions and houses. All of the houses are in the lower parts of the town al of the water rushes down and floods the whole area and because there is nowhere for the water to go it all builds up and is nowhere for it to go which mass the clean up harder.
Solution:
To help when it comes to floods we can start by building the houses at a higher ground and with a stronger foundation. If we were to create barriers around the houses to help prevent the water from destroying the houses. It will cost roughly 2 thousand per house to help with the foundation of the houses. Once the houses are fixed it will cost about 5 thousand dollars per house for the barriers that will be made from bricks and cement. To get this needed money we can do a fundraiser by collecting all of the unneeded materials from surrounding countries and states to use for the barriers and whatever we can not collect we can raise the money by going around to the neighboring cities and helping them with clean up from previous disasters to help raise the money needed while at the same time helping them prepare for the changes that are to come for their city. For short term goals it can take anywhere from 5-10 years to build new houses and get up all of the flood barriers up for one city. When it comes to long term goals we want to be able to have all of the houses, shops, and job places blocked off.
Another thing that can be done to help for when it comes to protecting the floods is that we can make storm drains for the water to flow into instead of tilling up the whole town and that lead away from the houses and towards the crops. If we can get the water to head towards and into a irrigation to be used at a later time. We can dig whiles along and through the town and line them with sandbags to help keep the water in. We can recycle the dirt we dig up in these areas and use them for the sandbags. The only part we will have to pay for is the bags as we can ship those overseas at a cheap price in bulk. It will probably cost 5 thousand dollars to make up for the bags. The long term goals is to reduce the damage from the crops and use that water for drinking later or to water the crops to help the grow and prosper.
Some problems that can come from this plan is that the barriers are in the war around the houses and become more of a burden rather than helping. Some of the water can be caught inside the barriers and do really bad damage to the buildings. The storm drains can overfill and flood the fields.
